The Poet and Text
Philip Arthur Larkin (1922 – 1985) was a renowned (বিখ্যাত) English poet and novelist. His first book of poetry was The North Ship, followed by two novels, Jill and A Girl in Winter. He came to prominence (পরিচিত) in 1955 with the publication (প্রকাশ) of his second collection (সংগ্রহ) of poems, The Less Deceived, followed by The Whitsun Weddings and High Windows. He was offered the position (স্থান) of Poet Laureate ( সভা কবি) in 1984 but he declined (প্রত্যাখ্যান) it.
ফিলিপ আর্থার লারকিন (১৯২২-১৯৮৫) একজন প্রখ্যাত ইংরেজী কবি ও ঔপন্যাসিক ছিলেন। তাঁর প্রথম কাব্যগ্রন্থ ছিল দ্য নর্থ শিপ, তারপরে ছিল তাঁর দুটি উপন্যাস জিল এবং এ গার্ল ইন উইণ্টার। ১৯৫৫ সালে তিনি তাঁর দ্বিতীয় কাব্যগ্রন্থ ‘দ্য লাস্ট ডিসেভড’ এবং পরবর্তীতে দ্য হুইটসন ওয়েডিংস এবং হাই উইন্ডোজ এর মাধ্যমে সর্বাধিক পরিচিতি লাভ করেন। ১৯৮৪ সালে তাঁকে সভাকবি/রাজকবি (Poet Laureate) পদ দেওয়া হয়েছিল কিন্তু তিনি তা প্রত্যাখ্যান করেছিলেন।
This poem describes (বর্ণনা করে) the journey of three ships that head to different destinations(গন্তব্য স্থান). While two ships return, one presses (এগিয়ে যায়) forward and faces perils(বিপদ) to continue its long onward journey, almost like a symbol (রুপক) of aspiration (আকাঙ্ক্ষা) that overcomes (অতিক্রম করে) all obstacles(প্রতিবন্ধকতা).
এই কবিতাটিতে তিনটি জাহাজের ভ্রমণের বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে যেগুলি বিভিন্ন গন্তব্যস্থলে যায়। যখন দুটি জাহাজ ফিরে আসে, একটি জাহাজ সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে যায় এবং বিপদের মুখোমুখি হয় দীর্ঘতর সম্মুখযাত্রা চালিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য, আকাঙ্ক্ষার রুপকের মতো যা সমস্ত বাধা অতিক্রম করে।

I saw three ships go sailing by,
আমি দেখলাম তিনটি জাহাজ চলাচল করছে,
Over the sea, the lifting sea,
সমুদ্র , উত্তোলিত সমুদ্রের উপরে
And the wind rose in the morning sky,
এবং বাতাস উঠলো সকালের আকাশে,
And one was rigged for a long journey.
আর একজনকে প্রস্তুত করা হল দীর্ঘ যাত্রার জন্য।
The first ship turned towards the west,
প্রথম জাহাজটি পশ্চিম দিকে ঘুরল,
Over the sea, the running sea,

And by the wind was all possessed
