All day yesterday (গতকাল) they had read in class about the sun.They learned (শিখেছে) how like a lemon (লেবু) it was and how hot.They had written small stories(গল্প), essays(প্রবন্ধ) or poems (কবিতা) about it.
গতকাল সারাদিন তারা ক্লাসে সূর্য সম্পর্কে পড়াশোনা করেছে। তারা শিখেছে এটি কেমন লেবুর মতো দেখতে এবং কতটা গরম। তারা এ সম্পর্কে ছোট গল্প, প্রবন্ধ বা কবিতা লিখেছে।
“I think the sun is a flower that blooms (প্রস্ফুটিত হওয়া) for just one hour.”
“আমার মনে হয় সূর্য এমন একটি ফুল যা কেবল এক ঘণ্টার জন্য প্রস্ফুটিত হয়।”
That was yesterday.Today, at this moment, the rain was slackening(কমছিল).The children gathered (জড়ো হয়েছিল) at the great thick (ঘন) windows(জানালা).
সেটি গতকাল ছিল।আজ, এই মুহুর্তে, বৃষ্টি কমছিল। বাচ্চারা মস্ত দুর্দান্ত পুরু জানালায় জড়ো হয়েছিল।
“Where’s our teacher?” “আমাদের শিক্ষিকা কোথায়?”
“She’ll be back.” “উনি ফিরে আসবেন।”
“She must hurry or she’ll miss it.” The rain slackened still more.
“তাকে অবশ্যই তাড়াতাড়ি আসতে হবে নয়তো তিনি দেখতে পাবেন না।” বৃষ্টি আরও কমে গেছে।
The children were eager (উদগ্রীব) to see the sun.They had been on Venus all their lives.They had been only two years old when the sun last came out. They had long since forgotten (ভুলে গেছে) the colour and the heat of how it really was.They played in the echoing (প্রতিধ্বনিময়) tunnels (সুড়ঙ্গ) of the underground (মাটির নিচের) city and sang of summer and the sun.
শিশুরা সূর্য দেখার জন্য উদগ্রীব ছিল।
তারা সারা জীবন শুক্র গ্রহেই আছে। যখন
তাদের বয়স ছিল মাত্র দু’বছর তখন সূর্য শেষবার উঠেছিল। তারা অনেক দিনের ব্যবধানে রঙ এবং আসলে তাপ কেমন ছিল তা ভুলে গিয়েছে। তারা ভূগর্ভস্থ শহরের প্রতিধ্বনিত টানেলের মধ্যে খেলেছে এবং গ্রীষ্ম এবং সূর্যের গান গেয়েছে।
The rain stopped.
বৃষ্টি থামল।
It was as if a hurricane (এক প্রকার তীব্র ঘূর্ণিঝড়) had lost its sound.There were no motions (গতি) or tremor (কম্পন) but peace(শান্তি). The world grounded to a standstill(স্থির). The silence (নীরবতা) was so immense (প্রচুর) one would feel as if the ears had been stuffed(বোজা).The children put their hands to their ears.They stood apart.The door slid (পিছলে নামা) back. The smell (গন্ধ) of the silent(নীরব), waiting (অপেক্ষমান) world came to them.
মনে হচ্ছিল কোনও হারিকেন(ঝড়) তার বাকশক্তি হারিয়েছে।কোনও গতি বা কম্পন ছিল না শুধু ছিল প্রশান্তি। বিশ্ব স্থির হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিল। নীরবতা এত অপরিসীম ছিল যে মনে হবে যেন কান বুজিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে। বাচ্চারা তাদের কানে হাত চাপা দিল। তারা সরে দাঁড়াল। দরজা পিছনে সরে গেল। নীরব, অপেক্ষমান জগতের গন্ধ তাদের কাছে এল।
The sun came out.
সূর্য বেরোল।
It was the colour of flaming (জলন্ত) bronze (ব্রোঞ্জ) and it was very large(সুবিশাল). The sky around it was blazing (উত্তপ্ত) blue.The jungle burned (পূড়ে গেছে) with sunlight.The children, released (ছাড়া পেয়েছে) from their spell(সম্মোহিত অবস্থা) rushed out, yelling(চিৎকার), into the summertime(গ্রীষ্মকাল).
এটির রঙ ছিল জ্বলন্ত ব্রোঞ্জের এবং এটি খুব বড় ছিল। চারপাশের আকাশটা ছিল গনগনে নীল। জঙ্গল সূর্যের আলোতে জ্বলে উঠল। শিশুরা, তাদের সম্মোহিত অবিস্থা থেকে মুক্তি পেয়ে ছুটে বাইরে এসে গ্রীষ্মকালীন সময়ে চিৎকার করছিল।
