Swami Vivekananda was a Hindu monk and one of the most influential philosophers of India. He was born in 1863 in Calcutta. His real name was Narendranath Dutta. From his boyhood he was very religious in spirit. He met Ramkrishna Paramhansa Dev and became his disciplie. He was a passionate advocate of Indian spirituality and culture and worked tirelessly to revive the country’s ancient heritage and values.
He founded the Ramakrishna Mission, an organization dedicated to serving humanity through selfless service and spiritual guidance, which continues to be active today. He is best known for his speeches at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1893, where he introduced Hinduism to the Western world and propagated the idea of interfaith harmony and universal brotherhood. He had a great love for the poor and illiterate people of India. He was dead against the evil of untouchability. He wrote many books like Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga etc. This great man died on died on July 4, 1902 in Belur Math. His ideas and teachings have had a profound impact on India and continue to inspire and guide people across the world.
