Sidda was given two meals a day and four rupees a month,
সিদ্ধাকে দিনে দু’বার খাবার ও মাসে চার টাকা দেওয়া হত,
in return for which he washed clothes, tended the garden, ran errands, chopped wood and looked after Leela.
যার বিনিময়ে সে কাপড় ধুয়ে দিত, বাগানের পরিচর্যা করত, ফাইফরমাশ খাটত, কাঠ কাটত এবং লীলার দেখাশোনা করতো।
“Sidda, come and play!” Leela would cry,
লীলা চিৎকার করে বলত, “সিদ্ধা, আসো খেলা করি!”
and Sidda had to drop any work he might be doing and run to her,
এবং সিদ্ধাকে যে কোনো কাজ ফেলে তার কাছে ছুটে যেতে হত,
as she stood in the front garden with a red ball in her hand.
কারণ সে একটি লাল বল হাতে নিয়ে সামনের বাগানে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকত।
His company made her supremely happy.
তার সাহচর্য তাকে প্রচন্ড খুশি করতো।
She flung the ball at him and he flung it back.
সে(লীলা) তার দিকে বল ছুঁড়ে দিত, সেও তার দিকে সেটি ফিরিয়ে দিত।
And then she said, “Now throw the ball into the sky.”
এবং তারপরে সে বলত, “এবার বলটি আকাশের দিকে ছুঁড়ে দাও।”
Sidda clutched the ball, closed his eyes for a second and threw the ball up.
সিদ্ধা বলটি আঁকড়ে ধরত , এক সেকেন্ডের জন্য তার চোখ বন্ধ করত এবং বলটি উপরে ছুরে দিত।
When the ball came down again, he said,
যখন বলটি আবার নিচে নেমে আসতো, সে বলত,
“Now this has touched the moon and come.

You see here a little bit of the moon sticking.”
তুমি দেখ এখানে চাঁদের কিছুটা অংশ লেগে আছে।”
Leela keenly examined the ball for traces of the moon and said,
লীলা চাঁদের চিহ্ন পাওয়ার জন্য বলটকে গভীরভাবে পরীক্ষা করল এবং বলল,
“I don’t see it.”
“আমি এটি দেখতে পাচ্ছি না।”
“You must be very quick about it,” said Sidda,
” তোমাকে এব্যাপারে আরও অনেক চটপটে হতে হবে ” সিদ্ধা বলল,
“because it will all evaporate and go back to the moon.
“কারণ এটা সবটাই বাষ্পে পরিণত হবে এবং চাঁদে ফিরে যাবে।
Now hurry up…. ”
এবার তাড়াতাড়ি করো…”
He covered the ball tightly with his fingers and allowed her to peep through a little gap.
সে নিজের আঙ্গুল দিয়ে বলটিকে শক্তভাবে ঢেকে দিত এবং কিছুটা ফাঁক দিয়ে তাকে (লীলা) উঁকি মারতে দিত।
“Ah yes,” said Leela.
“আহ হ্যাঁ,” লীলা বলল।
“I see the moon, but is the moon very wet?”
“আমি চাঁদ দেখতে পেয়েছি, তবে চাঁদ কি খুব ভেজা?”
“Certainly it is,” Sidda said.
সিদ্ধা বলল, ” অবশ্যই এটি ভেজা।”
“What is in the sky, Sidda?”
“আকাশে কি আছে, সিদ্ধা?”
“God,” he said.
“ঈশ্বর,” সে বলতো।
“If we stand on the roof and stretch our arms, can we touch the sky?”
“আমরা যদি ছাদে দাঁড়াই এবং আমাদের হাত বাড়িয়ে দিই, আমরা কি আকাশকে ছুঁতে পারব?”
“Not if we stand on the roof here,” he said.
“না, ছাদের এখানে দাঁড়িয়ে হবে না” সে বলল।
“But if you stand on a coconut tree you can touch the sky.”
” তুমি যদি নারকেল গাছের উপরে দাঁড়াও তবে আকাশ ছুঁতে পারবে।”
“Have you done it?” asked Leela.
“তুমি কি এটি করেছ?” লীলা জিজ্ঞাসা করল।
“Yes, many times,” said Sidda.
“হ্যাঁ, অনেক বার।” সিদ্ধা বলল।
“Whenever there is a big moon, I climb a coconut tree and touch it.”
“যখনই বড় চাঁদ থাকে, আমি একটি নারকেল গাছে উঠে তাকে স্পর্শ করি।”
“Does the moon know you?”
“চাঁদ কি তোমাকে চেনে?”
“Yes, very well.
“হ্যাঁ, খুব ভালোভাবে।
Now come with me.

I will show you something nice.”

They were standing near the rose plant.
তারা গোলাপ গাছের কাছে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিল।
He said, pointing, “You see the moon there, don’t you?”
সে ইঙ্গিত বলল, “তুমি সেখানে চাঁদ দেখতে পাচ্ছ, তাই না?”
