About The Writer:
Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) is one of the most popular British children’s authors of all times. Her works include series of novels in which children have their own adventures with minimal adult help. The most popular among these are The Famous five, based on four children and their dog, and The Secret Seven, a society of seven children who solve various mysteries. This text is an edited version of her short story The Adventurous Clown.

The Adventurous Clown(Part 1) Bengali Meaning | Lesson 2 | Class 6
There was once a toy clown called Tuffy.
একসময় টাফি নামে একটি খেলনা ভাঁড় (জোকার) ছিল।
He lived in a toy shop with many other toys.
সে খেলনার দোকানে আরও অনেক খেলনার সাথে থাকত।
Tuffy longed to be a hero.
টাফি নায়ক হতে চেয়েছিল।
He wanted to do something noble so that all the toys would cry out that he was a hero.
সে কিছু মহৎ কাজ করতে চেয়েছিল যাতে সমস্ত খেলনারা চিৎকার করে বলে যে সে একজন নায়ক।
He thought his little corner on the toy shelf was dull.
সে ভাবল খেলনার তাকের উপর তার ছোট কোণটি ছিল অনুজ্জ্বল।
“Why do you grumble so much?” asked Timothy, the puppy dog.
“তুমি এত নালিশ কর কেন?” টিমোথি নামে কুকুরছানাটি জিজ্ঞাসা করল।
“Be happy with us, Tuffy. Why do you want to go off and have adventures?”
“টাফি, আমাদের সাথে খুশি থাকো। তুমি কেন যেতে চাও এবং দু:সাহসিক কাজ করতে চাও?”
“Adventures are always exciting.
“দু:সাহসিক কাজ সবসময়ই উত্তেজনাপূর্ণ হয়।
I want to do something that would make all the toys take notice of me.
আমি এমন কিছু করতে চাই যা সমস্ত খেলনারা আমার দিকে নজর দেয়।
It’s so dull up here on our shelf,” replied Tuffy.

At night, the clown climbed down from his shelf to look for adventures.

Now that night there was to be a grand race between two wooden horses and carts driven by wooden farmers.
এখন সেই রাতের কাঠের কৃষকদের দ্বারা চালিত গাড়ীর এবং দুটি কাঠের ঘোড়ার মধ্যে একটি বিশাল দৌড় প্রতিযোগিতা ছিল।
The race was just starting as Tuffy climbed down.
টাফি নীচে নামার সাথে সাথে দৌড় শুরু হল।
One cart came racing by.
একটি গাড়ি ছুটতে ছুটতে এল।
The farmer riding it stood up and shouted!
যে কৃষকটি এটি চালাচ্ছিল উঠে দাঁড়ালো এবং চিৎকার করল।
“Goodness! An adventure already! A runaway horse!” thought Tuffy. “Now is my chance to be a hero.”
“দারুন! এর মধ্যেই একটি দু:সাহসিক কাজ! একটি ছুটন্ত ঘোড়া!” টাফি চিন্তা করল। “এখন আমার নায়ক হওয়ার সুযোগ।”
The horse and the cart came round again and Tuffy jumped at the reins.
ঘোড়া এবং গাড়িটি এল এবং টাফি লাগামে লাফ দিয়ে উঠল।
He held on to them and dragged the horse to one side.

The cart turned over and the farmer fell down.

“Now the other horse and cart will win! You silly, little clown!”
“এখন অন্য ঘোড়া এবং গাড়িটি জিতে যাবে! তুমি বোকা, ছোট্ট ভাঁড় !”
Tuffy was upset.
টাফির মন খারাপ হয়ে গেল।
“You don’t understand I’m a hero!”
“তুমি বুঝতে পারছো না, আমি একজন নায়ক!”
He ran out and sat down in a toy farm wiping his tears.
সে দৌড়ে বের হয়ে গেল এবং তার চোখের জল মুছতে মুছতে খেলনা ফার্মের মাঝে গিয়ে বসল।
Suddenly Tuffy noticed a doll’s house in a corner of the shop.
হঠাৎ টাফি দোকানের এক কোণে একটি পুতুলের বাড়ি লক্ষ্য করল।
He saw smoke coming out of one of the windows.
সে দেখতে পেল যে একটি জানালা থেকে ধোঁয়া বের হচ্ছে।
“Fire! Fire!” shouted Tuffy. “Another adventure! I’ll put it out at once.”
“আগুন আগুন!” টাফি চিৎকার করে উঠল। “আর একটি দুঃসাহসিক কাজ! আমি এক্ষুনি এটি নিভিয়ে দেব।”
He found a ladder and put it up against the wall of the doll’s house.
সে একটি সিঁড়ি দেখতে পেল এবং পুতুলের বাড়ির প্রাচীরে সেটিকে রাখল।
Then he took a big bucket, filled it with water from the farm pond.
তারপরে সে একটি বড় বালতি নিল, খামারের পুকুর থেকে সেটিতে জল ভরল।
He climbed the ladder and threw all the water in at the window.

Just then, someone caught him by the collar and roared, “And what do you think you’re doing playing a silly trick like that?”

Poor Tuffy was shaken like a rat.

“Don’t do that!” he shouted. “I am a hero! I was putting out the fire.”
“এটা করো না!” সে চিৎকার করল। “আমি একজন নায়ক! আমি আগুন নেভাচ্ছিলাম।”
Tuffy saw that he was speaking to a sailor doll who was making porridge.
টাফি দেখতে পেল যে সে একটি নাবিক পুতুলের সাথে কথা বলছে যে যবের মন্ড(এক ধরনের পিঠা) তৈরি করছিল।
“Can’t I cook in peace without you coming and throwing water at me?”
“তুমি এসে আমার উপর জল ফেলে না দিলে কি আমি শান্তিতে রান্না করতে পারি না?”
“They won’t let me be a hero,” he sobbed.”
“তারা আমাকে নায়ক হতে দেবে না,” সে ফুঁপিয়ে কাঁদল।
Soon after, he heard a cry and looked around.
কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যেই সে কান্নার শব্দ শুনল এবং চারপাশে তাকাল।
There was a big bowl of water nearby.
কাছেই একটা জলের বড় বাটি ছিল।
In it were swimming two fine goldfish.
তাতে সাঁতার কাটছিল দুটি সুন্দর সোনালি রঙের মাছ।
And there was a small doll too!
আর একটা ছোট পুতুলও সেখানে ছিল!
“She’s fallen in! I’ll rescue her! This is a real adventure at last!”
“সে পড়ে গেছে! আমি তাকে উদ্ধার করব! এটি শেষ পর্যন্ত সত্যিকারের একটি দু:সাহসিক কাজ!”

He brought the little doll out.

But she slipped out and fell on to the table banging her head.
কিন্তু সে পিছলে গেল এবং টেবিলে মাথা ঠং করে লেগে পড়ে গেল।
She began to cry.
সে কাঁদতে লাগল।
Up came a policeman doll and said fiercely, “What are you doing, catching the doll and making her bump her head like that?”
একজন পুলিশ পুতুল এসে তীব্রভাবে বলল, “তুমি কী করছ, পুতুলটি ধরে তার মাথাটা ওই ভাবে গুঁড়িয়ে দিচ্ছ?”
“I was saving her from drowning!” said Tuffy.
“আমি তাকে ডুবে যাওয়া থেকে বাঁচালাম!” টাফি বলল।
“I was having such a lovely swim!” sobbed the little doll.
আমি এত সুন্দর সাঁতার কাটছিলাম!” ছোট পুতুলটি ফুঁফিয়ে কেঁদে কেঁদে বলল।
“I swim with the goldfish every night.
“আমি প্রতি রাতে সোনালী মাছের সাথে সাঁতার কাটি।
But that clown caught me in a nasty net and spoilt my fun. He isn’t a hero at all!”
কিন্তু সেই ভাঁড়টি আমাকে বাজে ভাবে জালে জড়িয়ে ধরে আমার মজা নষ্ট করে দিল। সে মোটেও নায়ক নয়!”
The policeman locked Tuffy in a room in the police station.
পুলিশকর্মী থানায় একটি ঘরে টাফিকে তালাবদ্ধ করে রাখল।
Suddenly he heard a noise outside the window of the room.
হঠাৎ সে ঘরের জানালার বাইরে একটা শব্দ শুনতে পেল।
“Tuffy, Tuffy!” barked a little voice. “It is I, Timothy. Here is the key to the door.”
“টাফি, টাফি!” একটি ক্ষীণ কণ্ঠস্বর ঘেউ ঘেউ করল। “আমি, টিমোথী। এখানে দরজার চাবি।”
Tinkle! The key fell to the floor and the clown quickly unlocked the door.
টুংটাং শব্দ হল! চাবিটি মেঝেতে পড়ে গেল এবং জোকারটি দ্রুত দরজাটি খুলে ফেলল।
Timothy and he ran off together and climbed up to the shelf.
টিমোথি এবং সে এক সাথে ছুটে বেরিয়ে গেল এবং তাকের উপর উঠে গেল।
“Thank you. You’re the hero!” he said.
তোমাকে ধন্যবাদ। তুমিই নায়ক!” সে বলল।
“I didn’t stop to think. But you saw I was in real trouble and you saved me.” The toy dog blushed.
“আমি ভাবা বন্ধ করিনি। তবে তুমি দেখলে আমি সত্যিকারের সমস্যায় পড়েছিলাম এবং তুমি আমাকে উদ্ধার করেছ।” খেলনা কুকুরটি লজ্জা পেল।
“Oh! How peaceful it is up here. I’ll never want to leave this shelf again.”
“ওহ! এখানে এটা কত শান্তিপূর্ণ। আমি আর কখনও এই তাকটি ছেড়ে যেতে চাই না।”
And, until he was sold, he never did!
